A friendly contract between our family and you, to take care of our children and share our life on Lake Maggiore.

Baveno, Italy Updated 2026

We care for you. This contract may seem cold but it's just a list of things to understand the outlines of everyday jobs and the maximum effort we need on your side. Our priority is that our kids are happy AND that you are happy together. That happens when you're happy, rested, engaged and so on.

We are looking for a girl or a boy 19-22 years old, with a Schengen passport since it's much easier to do the papers and to travel.

We accommodate any kind of religion, orientation and ethics. We are an agnostic family, we eat meat and try to explain our kids things as they are, scientifically as much as they can understand. If you can bear with this, you can bear with us 🙂

We need a very task oriented, positive person, proactive and enthusiastic about working with kids and keeping the house clean. We also need a person proficient in English, or at least interested in learning Italian. We can talk in Spanish too but that's a last resort 😀

Carlys is the 11th au pair in 6 years. She's a very kind girl from Spain and she's leaving in July 2026. You can contact her for any questions about the work routine, the family, the area or really anything else. Feel free to ask us for her contact!

You'll have your own room with private bathroom, next to the kids' room.
You are supposed to keep your space tidy and decent — noise, garbage, smell management, normal adult stuff.
You can use all of our commodities: heating, water, electricity, wifi, garden, bike and so on.
You will always have meals and food at our home, on your free days too. If we're not home we usually have a full fridge and abundant pantry.
JUST ASK IF YOU WANT TO STEAL THE LAST CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM FROM THE FRIDGE or you'll be punished! ...that's a joke, come on 🍦😄

The working hours are 5 days a week, plus up to 4 hours on weekends, for an approximate maximum of 30 hours per week. For the rest of the hours you have Saturday and Sunday for yourself, plus a couple of mornings/afternoons.

The hours are not strictly counted: if you are tired you can and have to relax. There are days when you will work just 2 or 3 hours, others when we are busy for most of the day, or need a hand in the late evening. With the au pairs we have had so far, everything has flowed nicely, helping each other as a family should. It won't be that hard, we promise!

Mum is home until October, then she works 4 mornings and 2 afternoons during the week, plus 2 Saturday mornings a month.
All 3 big kids go to school during week days, every morning and some afternoons.
Lavinia (our youngest) will be born in February — starting in October when mom returns to work, you'll be very much needed to take care of her.
There will be days with 3 or 4 kids for a couple hours, but we always try not to leave you too much time with all of them.
Dad works full time 8-18 Mon-Fri, plus a couple nights out to play music 👏🎸
On Saturday mornings when mom works, we may ask you a 4 hour shift to help dad with the kids.
When mom is not working we don't usually wake you up — sometimes you can sleep until lunch!
We need you for at least 8 months, but if everyone's happy we could renew for a year.
Up to 2 evenings a week keeping the kids (~7pm to ~10pm — mostly sofa + Netflix duty). Once a week we might go for a pizza and you'd handle all 4 from 18:30 to bedtime.
On the other nights you are free — go wherever you want. We can lend you the car if you have a license. Just be ready and prompt the next morning 😉
Punctuality is essential: if we ask you to be ready by 8:30, we mean 8:30 ready, not waking up at 8:30 👍

We expect you to collaborate on housekeeping for up to 5 hours a week, usually a couple of mornings. Think of it as what a big sister would do:

Cleaning the bathroom
Mopping the floor
Taking care of the laundry
Bringing the dog (Gordon 🐕) for a walk
Making the beds
Going to the market
Getting the lunch/dinner table ready
Cooking (if you like to!)

Two daily duties we thank you a lot for: cleaning the kitchen after meals and taking out the trash.

Monthly pay
€450 + tips
Flight home
We'll probably contribute up to €150 as a final tip. Buy a 2-way ticket — it's cheaper!
Day trips
No extra pay but your trip, food & fun expenses are on us. Trips are usually optional.
Eating out
If you come out with us and the kids, we pay your meal. Also optional.

Ginevra

Born May 2018

A very happy girl who likes drawing, books and birds. Getting into videogames, music and Pokémon.

Goes to school at 7:45 with the school bus. After school she goes to Cubalù for homework with friends.

She does gymnastics and likes tennis and bike. She understands Spanish and English!

Very obedient if you find the right way to interest her. Main advice: don't go head to head — show her alternatives if she gets stubborn. She's a great resource to help with her younger brothers.

🚗

Enea

Born July 2020

A tough guy, often smiling and sometimes crying — loud and clear but never for long.

Goes to school all week, 8/9:15 to 16:15. He likes going out with his bike and to the playground. He likes cars 😛

Goes to karate once a week. Physical, loves to run and move things.

Also very sweet — he loves to be held and to have physical contact with people he loves.

🎵

Ludovico

Born March 2023

He is 3 years old, very funny and clever. Likes playing with Ginni and Enea, music and drawing.

Same school as Enea.

Sometimes he cries and needs to lay on the ground for a good 5 minutes. If you pick him up before he's done he gets even angrier 😡

We use reusable diapers — you'll need to handle those with the washing machine.

👶

Lavinia

Born February 2026

Our newest family member! She'll be with mom at home until October.

Starting in October, we'll need you to take care of her when mom is working: cleaning, changing diapers, putting her to sleep, taking her out once a day.

You can do whatever you want in your free time. Smoking and drinking are ok as long as you can do your service and don't drive drunk. If you're in that situation, just call dad and he'll come pick you up.
Don't smoke around us: around the kids for obvious reasons, in front of mom because she's an ex-smoker. We have a huge garden! 🌳
You can invite friends from your country every now and then, as long as they don't interfere with duties. Previous au pairs did that and it was great!
We are 40, we'll do our best to be a good company. If we meet younger people we'll introduce them to you!
We can't pay for Italian lessons (300+€/month), but Duolingo + having friends is the way!
We have 3 cats and a dog. We hope you like animals! 🐱🐱🐱🐕
You can go home every once in a while for the weekend — usually once every other month. At Christmas we give a couple weeks off.

Baveno is a very peaceful town on Lake Maggiore. Our house is 100 meters from the lake, with a small garden.

The next "big" city is Verbania (35,000 people), 10km away — a bigger version of Baveno with cool pubs, a longer lakeside walk, a theater and cinemas.

Transportation is quite basic. Buses aren't so frequent, ferries are a bit expensive. You will have a bike for in-town moving, and we can drive you around.

There are lots of nice places to reach on foot or by bike: a park, a swimming pool, the lake, a 50km bike road network in the woods, mountain walks and more. We'll give you plenty of inspiration!

Milan is 90km away — the train station is close to our house and connects straight to Milan in 1h20m. It's a very interesting city, we strongly encourage you to visit for a full day!

What is your philosophy when it comes to discipline?
We just say no. It's part of growing up. Our kids are used to a clear "no" when it's meaningful. They sometimes cry and we try to be sweet but enforce the message. When it gets critical we may try to find a deal — for example, if they want to watch a video after a really long day, we might say ok for a minute.
Do you have a hospital nearby? How are medical needs handled?
In the Schengen area you should be alright — Italian hospitals treat you as if you were in your own country. Be sure you have no issues with health institutions at home (in some countries you need a working contract). There's an affordable au pair insurance (~€35/month) we can suggest. The hospital is 15km from our home.
What initially drove you to begin the au pair program?
Lots of good reasons: it's economic, it's fun, the kids learn to interact with different people and grow up with a new perspective. We have time for the couple of us. Girls coming here have a wonderful human experience — a break from their usual rhythm. That's one of the reasons we favor people coming out of high school or the first year of university.
How do you usually spend weekends as a family?
We usually go out Saturday and Sunday mornings for a walk or brunch, sometimes with electric bikes. Winter is lazier but we try to get out at least once a day. Afternoons we often rest until 16:00, then meet friends if we have plans.
Do the kids have extracurricular activities?
Ginni goes to dance (nothing too serious yet), Enea does karate once a week, and they all enjoy biking and outdoor activities.
What are your usual meals?
Breakfast around 8am with cereals and milk or biscuits. Lunch during the week is without the kids — sometimes we eat out, sometimes at home. Dinner is usually at 7pm. We have a lot of pasta 😀 with different sauces, alternated with rice, meat or proteins once a day, and we strive for vegetables even if it's not always easy with kids.
What is your day like as parents?
Dad loves his work and needs focus time — he tries to keep a regular rhythm (8-18) but sometimes grabs/drops kids from school. He loves going to work late and spending more time with the kids during breakfast.
What kind of clothing do you recommend?
We are a temperate Mediterranean area: summer can be very hot (swimsuit all day in July), and winter easily gets to 7°C during the day, so a nice heavy coat is recommended.

Thanks for reading us! We really hope to hear from you. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask — we're an open book 📖
